UPS FACES SAFETY-LAW FINES

The government proposed $280,000 in fines Monday against United Parcel Service, accusing the company of willfully violating federal safety laws requiring that job-related deaths and injuries be reported.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the alleged violations took place at the company's Watertown, Conn., facility.UPS was cited for failing to notify OSHA about a job-related death and failing to record more than 100 other injuries and illnesses.
