Wake Forest University Board of Trustees announced plans Friday to phase out its two athletic dormitories on campus, in keeping with reforms of intercollegiate athletics now being considered by the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA.

Within the next two years, Palmer and Piccolo Halls, which exclusively house Demon Deacon athletes, will be integrated with non-athlete students. Athletes will also be housed across campus.Wake Forest President Thomas K. Hearn Jr. has been instrumental in pushing for student-athlete reforms on a national level, stressing that more emphasis must be placed on making the athlete a part of regular student life, not separate from it.
