Pvt. Jeffrey L. Smith has graduated from the U.S. Army armor crewman courses at Fort Knox, Ky.

Students learned the duties of a tank crewman, including the firing of armament and small weapons. They were also taught field radio operation, map reading, and repair and maintenance procedures of the tank.Smith is the son of Malinda A. and Paul W. Murray of Route 13, Reidsville.

He is a 1985 graduate of Rockingham Counthy Senior High School, Wentworth.

Staff Sgt. LaBonnie A. Dalton recently competed in the Air Force Worldwide Talent Contest at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.

The Air Force Worldwide Talent Contest provides an opportunity for Air Force amateur entertainers to display their performing arts talents.

Competing in the Worldwide Talent Contest also provides each participant the chance to vie for the coveted Air Force Roger Award (an Oscar or Emmy equivalent) and the recognition of being the best talent in the Air Force.

She is an imagery interpreter technician with the 496th Radio Television Service in England.

Dalton is the daughter of Judy H. and Aaron M. Dalton of Stoneville.

The sergeant is a 1980 graduate of Stoneville High School.

Navy Seaman Robert C. Quesenbury, son of Robert C. Quesenbury of 1318 Front St., Eden, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

During Quesenbury's eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 basic fields.

His studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

A 1988 graduate of Morehead High School, he joined the Navy in April 1990.

Air Force Staff Sgt. John W. Smith has arrived for duty in England.

Smith is a vehicle maintenance control and analysis specialist with the 501st Transportation Squadron.

He is the son of Henry L. and Jinnie R. Smith of Route 3, Walnut Cove.

Smith is a 1981 graduate of South Stokes High School, Walnut Cove.

Air Force Airman James J. Parsons has arrived for duty at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas.

Parsons is an apprentice munitions systems specialist with the 7th Munitions Maintenance Squadron.

He is the son of Margaret C. and James B. Parsons of 722 Sycamore Court, Eden.

Parsons is a 1988 graduate of Morehead Senior High School, Eden.

Sgt. Edward J. Morrell III has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal at Fort Bragg.

The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army.

He is an anti-armor weapons infantryman with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Morrell is the son of Edward J. Morrell Jr. of 21 Brian Court and brother of Janice O'Malley of 6116 Sixth Ave., both of Troy.

His wife, Sylvia, is the daughter of James McCloskey of 505 Robinhood Road, Reidsville.

Marine Lance Cpl. James T. Gardner, a 1987 graduate of Morehead High School, Eden, recently reported for duty with Marine Aircraft Group-26, Jacksonville.

Gardner is the son of James A. and Shirley W. Gardner of Route 1, Stoneville.

He joined the Marine Corps in January 1988.
