Airman Craig J. Merritt has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the community college of the Air Force.

Merritt is the son of Dewey P. and Mary E. Merritt, 2208 Rheims Drive. He is a 1988 graduate of Ben L. Smith High School.

Pvt. George L. Dockery has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid and Army history and traditions.

Dockery is the son of Katie Campbell and George T. Dockery of 1704 Allen St. He is a 1984 graduate of Ben L. Smith High School.

Marine Pvt. Alton D. Crosby, son of Howard N. and Agnes F. Crosby of 210 Drexel Court, recently completed the Motor Vehicle Operator Course.

During the five-week course at Marine Corps Service Support School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, Crosby received classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction on the operation and capabilities of Marine Corps vehicles, defensive driving techniques, ``rules of the road' and user-level preventive maintenance.

A 1987 graduate of Page High School, he joined the Marine Corps in May 1989.

Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick T. Morgan, son of Clyde P. Morgan of 4907 Tokay Court and Donna V. Morgan of Randleman, has been promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Air Station, Adak, Alaska.

A 1987 graduate of Southern Guilford High School, he joined the Marine Corps in October 1988.

Airman Leo A. Ingram has graduated from the U.S. Air Force electronic communications and cryptographic equipment systems repairman course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Graduates of the course learned to operate and repair specialized communications equipment and earned credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.

Ingram is the son of Leo and Ola G. Ingram of 4215 Queen Beth Drive. He is a 1987 graduate of Dudley Senior High School.

Tech. Sgt. William L. Mitchell has graduated from an Air Force major command noncommissioned officer academy.

The sergeant received advanced military leadership and management training.

He is a frequency manager with the 1956th Communications Group in Japan.

Mitchell is the son of Willie L. and Georgeanna Mitchell of 420 Air Harbor Road. He is a 1971 graduate of Walter Hines Page High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher P. Fox, son of John L. and JoAnn A. Fox of Brown Summit, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.

During Fox's eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 basic fields.

Fox's studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

A 1987 graduate of Northeast Senior High School, he joined the Navy in October 1989.

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert R. Cox, son of Elizabeth J. and Robert R. Cox Sr. of Liberty, recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

A 1986 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School, he joined the Navy in 1989.

Navy Fireman Recruit Michael L. Sawer, son of Pamela H. Stephens of Liberty, graduated with honors from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.

He was commended for his outstanding performance in all phases of training, which includes instruction in seamanship, military regulations, close order drill, first aid and Naval history. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

A 1988 graduate of Eastern Randolph High School, he joined the Navy in June 1989.

Marine Sgt. Ricky Bennett, a 1980 graduate of Dudley Senior High School, recently reported for duty with 2nd Air Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Danny C. Ray has arrived for duty in Japan.

Ray is assigned to the 18th Supply Squadron.

He is the son of Willie C. and Lillian I. Ray of 802 Scott Ave. Ray is a 1979 graduate of Ben L. Smith High School.

Air Force Sgt. Felica F. Morris recently deployed to Egypt to participate in exercise ``Bright Star '90.'

The exercise provided an opportunity for U.S. and Egyptian forces to engage in combined land, naval and air training.

Morris is a law enforcement specialist with the 1st Security Police Squadron at Langley Air Force Base, Va.

She is the daughter of Mary R. and Johnnie L. Morris of 1828 Eastwood Ave. The sergeant is a 1985 graduate of James B. Dudley Senior High School.

Navy Airman Recruit Ronald E. Ray, son of Charles H. and Catherine P. Ray of Kernersville, recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, homeported in Mayport, Fla.

A 1989 graduate of East Forsyth High School, he joined the Navy in July 1989.

Army Sgt. Keith O. Slade has arrived for duty in Washington where he serves as an administrative specialist with the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.

Slade, a 1983 graduate of Northeast Guilford High School, is the son of Wallace and Mary Slade, 3817 Ludwick Lane.

Spec. Eliot D. McCleese was presented the Air Assault Badge upon graduation from the U.S. Army's air assault school at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

A 1987 graduate of Dudley High School, he is the son of Linday and Phyllis McCleese of 3 Woodlake Court.

Spec. Paul D. Gray has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal in West Germany. The medal is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage or other accomplishments.

Gray is an infantryman with the 4th Infantry. He is the son of Paul D. Gray of 8024 Thorndike Road and is a 1976 graduate of Northwest Guilford High School.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Bruce E. Chambliss has arrived for duty at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. He is a security supervisor with the 3380th Tactical Training Communications Group.

A 1974 graduate of Page Senior High School, he is the son of Charles and Alfreda Chambliss of 309 Guerrant St. His wife, Deborah, is the daughter of William and Mary Covington of 1001 Hertford St.

A 1986 graduate of Page Senior High School, he is the son of Gilbert and Mattie Haynes of 217 1/2 S. Elm St. He joined the Marine Corps in May.

Marine Pvt. Timothy T. Lowe recently completed the School of Infantry. During the course, he received instruction and participated in field exercises involving infantry tactics, the construction and camouflage of fighting positions, and the use of mines, demolitions and the intra-company communications equipment.

He is the son of Timothy J. Lowe of 1102 Summer Place. A 1987 graduate of Southwest Guilford High School, he joined the Marine Corps in May.
