WORKMAN NAMED ONE OF STATE'S TOP NURSES

Melinda Gray Workman of Winterville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Workman of Liberty, has been selected one of the Great 100 Registered Nurses in North Carolina for 1990.

Workman, a registered nurse at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, was chosen by a committee of RNs from among nominees representing 55 counties in North Carolina. She and the other 99 recipients were selected on the basis of their outstanding professional abilities and commitment to improving health care in their communities. These individuals present a positive, professional image of nursing.The 100 will be honored at a formal dinner-dance at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Towers in Raleigh Saturday.

Workman has been a nurse for three years. She is a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville.

At Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Workman is a nurse on the cardiac/telemetry step-down unit, a charge nurse and a unit preceptor for new employees. She is also an educator for her unit and helps coordinate, facilitate and teach basic and intermediate cardiac core classes.

Workman was nominated for the ``Search of Excellence' award this year and was awarded the Divisional Nurse of the Year Award for the Medical Division.
