Greensboro YMCA officials expect to kick off a fund drive in late April to raise money to complete construction at Hayes-Taylor YMCA.

Organizers of the drive, which will be divided into corporate and community campaigns, will attempt to raise about $1.8 million - 85 percent of which is expected to come from corporate donors. It is expected to take $1.3 million to finish construction, but the drive's goal also includes interest payments, said Ralph Shelton, chairman of the Metropolitan YMCA board. In addition, funds are being included to cover parts of the project already contracted but for which funds have not been raised.

The community part of the drive is expected to begin about April 26, Shelton said. The corporate part, however, will probably not begin until mid-May because business people want first to see complete figures on unfinished parts of the project, Shelton said.

Both parts of the drive must be completed by June 30 so that the drive doesn't conflict with the United Way's 1990 annual campaign.

Shelton said Hayes-Taylor should be ready for use by the end of the year.
