Hickory City Schools is pleased to announce several leadership transitions for the upcoming school year, reinforcing the district’s commitment to student achievement, family engagement, and strong school communities.
Erin Sigmon named family engagement and readiness specialist
After years of dedicated service as principal of Southwest Primary School, Erin Sigmon will transition into a new district role as the Family Engagement and Readiness Specialist for Parents as Teachers.
Throughout her career in primary education leadership, Sigmon has developed a deep understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of young learners and their families. Her experience supporting early childhood development, combined with her expertise in Conscious Discipline practices, positions her to further strengthen family partnerships and school readiness efforts across the district.

“Mrs. Sigmon has spent years building meaningful relationships with students and families while creating nurturing learning environments where children can thrive,” said Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Griffin. “Her passion for early childhood education and her strong foundation in Conscious Discipline make her exceptionally well-suited to support families in this important new role.”
Cierra Ferguson named principal of Southwest Primary School
Hickory City Schools has named Cierra Ferguson as the next principal of Southwest Primary School.
Ferguson currently serves as assistant principal at both Oakwood Elementary School and W. M. Jenkins Elementary School, where she has demonstrated a strong commitment to instructional excellence and student growth. Her leadership in literacy instruction, numeracy, data-driven decision-making, and school improvement initiatives has supported academic success for students and staff alike.
“Mrs. Ferguson is an innovative and student-centered leader who brings a strong instructional background and a passion for academic excellence,” said Dr. Griffin. “Her expertise in literacy development and instructional numeracy, combined with her collaborative leadership style and ability to build strong school cultures, make her an outstanding fit to lead Southwest Primary School.”
Cyrus Henson named interim principal of Hickory High School
Hickory City Schools has also named Cyrus Henson as interim principal of Hickory High School.
Henson has served as an assistant principal at Hickory High for many years and is widely respected for his dedication to students, staff, and the school community. His deep understanding of the school’s culture, combined with his leadership experience and commitment to student success, will provide continuity and stability during this transition period.
“Mr. Henson has been an integral part of Hickory High School for many years and has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to students, staff, and the Tornado community,” said Dr. Griffin. “His leadership experience, vision for student success, and ability to foster meaningful relationships will continue to strengthen the school community and support the ongoing success of Hickory High School.”
