SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kasey McIlvaine and Baker Hudson of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team have been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) co-golfers of the week, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
These honors bring UNCG's season total to four SoCon golfers of the week awards. McIlvaine earned her second honor this season after also being recognized on Sept. 16. Elle Burnette received the award on Sept. 2, while this is Hudson's first conference honor.
McIlvaine and Hudson earned the honor this week after being crowned co-champions at the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford at Country Club of Spartanburg. The two Spartans also share the honor of SoCon golfer of the week with Samford's Gabi Nicastro, who also won the individual title at the Lady Red Wolves Classic.
McIlvaine collected her second individual title of the season behind two rounds of 72 to post an even-par 144 score. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native led the field of 67 competitors with 30 total pars.
"Getting a win this week means so much to me," stated McIlvaine. "To win my first tournament in our last event and do it again this week proves that all the work myself and my coaches have been putting in is worth it. I feel so lucky to share this accomplishment and honor with my teammate Baker, she inspires me to do my best every time I step onto the course."
Hudson, earning her first collegiate title, fired a one-under-par 71 performance in round one before moving up two spots with a one-over-par 73 in round two. The New Bern, North Carolina, native tied for first with a 4.00 par-four average.
"I had a lot of fun playing at Country Club of Spartanburg and felt really good about my game," remarked Hudson. "I am so grateful to get to be a part of the SoCon and be surrounded by such an amazing athletic community here at UNCG."
McIlvaine and Hudson paced the Spartans to their second runner-up finish this season at the Terrier Intercollegiate, taking second place out of 12 teams. UNCG finished with a 15-over-par 591 team score, following rounds of 294 and 297. The Spartans finished first in pars (121), tied for first in par-three average (3.13), second in par-four average (4.22) and tied for second in par-fives (5.08).
